I) General Provisions of the Guarantee:
-
The following information outlines the UC Santa Barbara Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) for the College of
Engineering for the fall 2010 term only. This agreement will be reviewed on an annual basis during the spring
and reconfirmed for the next academic period.
-
The Fall 2010 UCSB Transfer Admission Agreement applies to the five undergraduate majors in the College of Engineering:
- Chemical Engineering, B.S.
- Computer Engineering, B.S.
- Computer Science, B.S.
- Electrical Engineering, B.S.
- Mechanical Engineering, B.S.
Please note: The Computer Science, B.A. is covered under the College of Letters and Science TAG.
In addition to the general TAG requirements listed in Section II, Numbers 1-6, students must complete a minimum
number of specified courses in their major as explained in Section II, Number 7. Major preparation requirements
are detailed in the articulation agreements by major between UCSB and your community college online at
www.assist.org.
-
This agreement does not apply to students with senior class standing (students with 90 or more UC-transferable
semester units) from accredited four-year universities and community colleges combined.
-
Students cannot reach senior standing with only community college units completed. A maximum of 70
UC-transferable community college semester units will be accepted toward graduation. Subject credit is
awarded for community college units taken beyond 70 semester units.
- All UC-transferable units completed at a four-year university apply toward the 90 semester unit limit.
- AP and IB units earned prior to high school graduation do not apply to the 90 semester unit limit.

Transfer Admission Advising Information
Pre-Majors:
Computer Science and Computer Engineering majors at UCSB require that students complete remaining prerequisite courses
with a minimum grade point average at UCSB after transfer to be advanced to full major status. Major preparation
articulation agreements (found online at www.assist.org) include detailed information about the pre-major. Students
may contact UCSB academic department advisors to discuss their plans to transfer and get more information about the pre-major.
A few words about IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum):
Transfer students pursuing a major in the College of Engineering may complete either College of Engineering General
Education or IGETC. Students are advised to focus first on major preparation and then, as time permits, either on IGETC
or UCSB General Education.
Students who will not complete IGETC prior to transfer should refer to the College of Engineering General Education agreement
at www.assist.org under agreements "For General
Education/Breadth" between UCSB and the community college. UCSB's General Education requirements do not have to be
completed prior to transfer. However, students who choose to follow the College of Engineering General Education are advised
to complete two to three General Education courses prior to transfer. For information concerning satisfaction of UCSB General
Education requirements, please refer to the College of Engineering General University and General Education Program Requirements
handbook at http://engineering.ucsb.edu/current_undergraduates/pdf/coegebook.pdf.
Depth Requirement:
In addition to General Education, all students in the College of Engineering are required to complete a depth requirement.
Students who wish to satisfy the depth requirement prior to transfer must complete a year-long sequence in the history of
world civilization, history of western civilization, history of the United States, history of western philosophy, or history
of western art. Students may want to choose courses for general education or IGETC that will concurrently satisfy the depth
requirement. After transfer, students may also complete the depth requirement with upper division course work.
